Or discussion in Off Topic? To be frank, I'm hoping that you guys can help me to get off my duff and stop making excuses for why I'm not running, and I can do the same for you. I'm discovering that if I'm not accountable to anyone but myself, I find other things to do besides run. Plus, it would be nice to share favorite work out locations, gear reviews, training schedules, etc. To me, one of the main reasons it's important to exercise is to lead my kids by example. I can't very well tell them to exercise if I don't do it! So running regularly is not just one of my personal goals, but a parenting one as well. Thoughts?

I think putting it in OT would be perfect.

I'm not a runner, but I've really been trying to walk every day. It's not happening... :(

I've walked for years and years. Suddenly I've just stopped and my waist is clearly suffering because of it.

I just started running again. I go through such spurts. Anyway, last saturday I ran/walked around cherokee park with a friend. Last night I ran a loop thru the Highlands and will do it again tonight. I'm trying to start out mild, but I'm actually running further and faster that I thought I could. I'd like to build up a good enough base to do the mini in the spring. I need a goal to work toward if I'm gonna succeed. I have a baby jogger, but I just leave Kaya at home with dad. I have no idea where the wind guard is for it anyway. If anyone's up for a Saturday running get together let me know. Nothing motivates me like know I can't wuss out on other people.
As far as leading by example, I've also been doing yoga at home, and you get like 3 times the workout when you have a toddler crawling all over you. And it usually ends in a ticklefest.

I'll run with you, MamaG! Saturdays are good for me. My thing with having a running buddy(ies) is that I think everyone should be clear at the outset that a) no one has to talk to each other while running, although having a coffee together afterwards is perfectly acceptable and b) you don't actually have to run "together" because people go at different paces and no one should have to speed up or slow down. Does that sound harsh? Because I don't mean it to, I promise! I've just tried to do it with people before and those things became an issue. But I do like the social factor of having someone to be accountable to, and you know, a coffee afterwards is nice sometimes! I'm starting the program I did before, which worked well. http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml I ended up not following it after four or five weeks, and was just running the 5K. But for anyone else who is just now starting (or starting again!) and wants to join in, it's a good training program. The Fleet Feet Grand Prix is three races, for different charities, in Dec, Jan, and Feb. I'm thinking of signing up and I am vowing to run the mini this year. I'm going to start training next week. Who else is on board?

I'm up for it. Just let me know the races you want to do this year & I'll do them with you. And I also want to do the mini this spring. I already ran this morning. For some reason I like running in the rain. If you want to get together this week let me know. The evenings after my DH gets home from work is a good time for me and I can meet you wherever. Saturday is also good. So far I'm trying to stick to a Mon/Wed/Thurs/Sat running schedule, but I am flexible.

I'm up for running in the evening at Seneca/Cherokee park - just let me know.
