Kaya was diagnosed with croup today. Apparently not alot you can do about it except comfort measures and some nighttime decadron treatments. Anyone have experience with this?

How's she feeling today? Fortunately I've not had any experience with this at all.

Since it's airway related, do you think a humidifier in her room at night would help? I know it's been helping me lately with the normal winter congestion-type stuff.

That's no good! I'm sorry to hear it. Caleb had croup a couple of years ago. He said that the only thing that really bothered him was the headache and belly soreness from coughing so much. So we treated that with Tylenol. Other than that, we did use a humidifier, and sometimes went in the bathroom and turned the shower on full steam when he was coughing hard. I made tea and gave him lukewarm cups of it. Also, I often use the Vick's Babyrub on his chest when he has a cough, and it really helps him. I hope it clears up soon. It's so awful to listen to the poor little things coughing like that!

She is actually doing so well, now. The steroid the doc gave helped a lot. We only had one bad night, and during the day you can't really tell there's anything wrong with her. We've been letting her watch a fair bit of TV, its the only way to keep her somewhat still. Running and playing makes her cough worse. I know I like to curl up on the couch & watch the tube when I don't feel well. We've also been reading lots of books. The vicks also helps her. We have a small humidifier, but Scott is going to install one into our HVAC system b/c he can get a good deal. With my asthma and her I think it would be a good investment. Oh yes, and to get her to breath in steam from the bathroom, I got a warm wet washcloth and got her to "smell" it while I was holding a letter or small bath toy in it. She would say "It smells like an X" or "It smells like a hippopotamus." Thanks for your well wishes--were all doing well now!
