Most of you know that Piper wasn't ready for preschool afterall. She still wanted to hang out with her Mama.
I'm grateful I can meet her needs by staying home with her, but I'm afraid she'd getting kind of bored now that the weather has turned gray, dreary and cold. (I know I am.)
Lately we've been doing lots of craft projects. This turkey hat is her favorite: http://family.go.com/entertainment/c...-turkey-hat-t/
She's been wearing it as much as possible and tries to stretch the head down so she can talk to it. We went on a walk last week to collect leaves and ironed them in wax paper using the instructions here: http://en.allexperts.com/q/Arts-Craf...ing-leaves.htm
A few other sites I've found helpful are:
http://www.dltk-holidays.com/thanksgiving/index.html
http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/
Yesterday I simply traced her hand with a marker to make a turkey shape. Then I let her cut out little pieces of colored paper and glue the pieces onto the turkey to make a mosaic pattern. She loves to cut and paste so I figured that plays to her strengths.

Re: Holiday Crafts
Those are great ideas. I love crafting. Sometimes I think that I had children just so that I could spend years making handprint turkeys and candy cane reindeer.

Re: Holiday Crafts
We also love kidscraftweekly.com. I am not the least bit inclined in this area, so it's helpful to have somebody else's projects to rip off! (And it calms my not-going-to-preschool-like-everyone-else anxiety, a little bit). I think we might do those turkey hats-I bet my kids would love it.

Re: Holiday Crafts
I've had several people make comments like, "Oh. Those are cute. Did she make them in preschool?"
So I guess I'm doing something right, lol. I'm not crafty by nature, but she seems to demand it.

| Heartland Music Together Babies Class - Monday, December 15, 2008Heartland Music Together now offers a class just for babies (8 months or younger) and their adult caregivers.
I'm very excited about leading our new babies class. As in our regular mixed-age classes, we'll mix songs, chants, movement play, and more, and we'll use songs from our well-loved Music Together curriculum. One major difference between this class and our mixed-age classes is that I'll spend more time talking to parents, to help them understand their baby's development. Parents will receive extra support, and I'll be able to answer any questions that come up as we go through the class. I'll also share ideas and techniques that are especially well suited for not-yet-mobile babies. Parents will learn lots of fun ways to play and interact with their newest family members.
Our Babies classes start the week of January 5, in two locations: Mondays at 11:30 in our Middletown location, or Thursdays at 11:30 in our St Matthews location. Each class meets once a week, for 45 minutes. We're now accepting registrations for this class as well as our mixed-age classes.
