Life, the Universe and Everything

Watching my now 2.5yo daughter developing and discovering the world has been an adventure. She has added joy to our blended family. My work at home mom (WAHM) status has injected a certain amount of stress into an already hectic household.

The Christmas Season

Like so many people, I struggle with the concept of religion. On the one hand, because of my own haphazard and varied childhood religious experiences, I think it is important to have a community. On the other hand, because of my own haphazard and varied childhood religious experiences, organized religion sometimes gives me the willies and I recognize that a person can be a member of a close-knit non-religious community. As a result, we actually belong to a church, but don't attend very often.

This time of the year brings my personal religious struggles to the forefront. Which elements of the season do I stress for my young child? What traditions do we want to develop as a family?

Ice Skating!

So, Dh is off work this week. He's taking a "stay-cation". You know, where you stay at home instead of spending an arm and a leg going someplace tropical? In order to make his vacation feel a little bit more vacation-y, I suggested we go ice skating.

Holiday Crafts

Most of you know that Piper wasn't ready for preschool afterall. She still wanted to hang out with her Mama.

I'm grateful I can meet her needs by staying home with her, but I'm afraid she'd getting kind of bored now that the weather has turned gray, dreary and cold. (I know I am.) Therefore, we've turned to craft projects.
School

After much consideration we decided to send Piper to preschool this fall. She's very used to spending the vast majority of her time with her Mama so we've been doing a fair amount of preparatory work. We've been telling her stories about make believe children who go to visit their grandmas or who spend the day at school. The child always has loads of fun. The story ends with Mama coming to pick up the happy child and taking her home. At a friend's suggestion we checked a book out of the library called Mama Always Comes Home about various animal Mamas who need to leave their little ones for short periods.

Imagination

I have a picture on our desktop of Piper when she was tiny - maybe 8 months old. She's sitting in a bouncy seat and blowing raspberries. She looks at something off to the side of the photographer.
